How RoadDefender was born

Every road crew knows the sound of a vehicle that isn't slowing down. Cones and signs mark a work zone — but they only mark it. They don't watch the road, and they can't warn a worker in time.

On a Ranger Construction job in 2023, a driver entered the work zone. A worker in its path was struck and killed. There was no system watching the road for him — nothing to see the vehicle coming and put a warning on his wrist while there was still time to move.

RoadDefender was built to be that system. To watch the approach, and to reach every worker on the job with a warning early enough to act on — so the next person standing where he stood gets the seconds he didn't.

It was hardened into a product through Florida DOT's SWIFTT program, refined across a year of live paving with four Florida construction innovators, and named winner of the 2024 FDOT SWIFTT Challenge.

Today RoadDefender runs on live job sites, on the vehicle and on the wrist — field-validated alongside Samsung's Galaxy Watch and documented in a published Samsung case study. It's built and operated by RoadDefender Works.
